Paul Bergin: "The Craziest, Most Evil Lawyer in the History of New Jersey"

"I got it all figured out. Put on a ski mask, make it look like a robbery. It cannot under any circumstances look like a hit."

"Ok, so what are we going to do about this person? She's a user right? Why don't we give her a hot shot? Just stick her."

"No witness, no case."

You could be forgiven for thinking these quotes were from some cartoonish Tarantino 70's mob character.

In reality, these are just a handful of stunningly evil things that disgraced New Jersey lawyer Paul Bergin has been accused of saying to undercover cops or on tape. Imagine what they didn't hear!?? Hot mic, Paul!

I came across the story of Paul Bergin randomly a handful of months ago when reading about some old case that I won't bother talking about here. The article was forgettable, but there was a footnote indicating the accused had previously been represented by "infamous celebrity lawyer Paul Bergin"- so I did some digging. Who doesn't love a good mob story?

Oh, mama. I know it's 2020 and we don't like to sensationalize terrible people, but would it be too much to ask for a movie on this maniac? Maybe a 60 Minutes feature? Far as I can tell he's only got a measly 43 minute TV feature on a show I've never heard of.

Paul Bergin has been in jail on multiple life sentences since 2013, but before that, the man who was coined "The Baddest Lawyer in the History of New Jersey " by NY Mag was said to be infamously running rampant over Newark, NJ.

One well-known lawyer from the area was quoted saying the following:

"If Paul is guilty of half the things they say, he'd be the craziest, most evil lawyer in the history of the State of New Jersey. That is saying something."

According to that same article, which is much better than this one, Bergin would drive his Bentley down the main streets of Newark. After parking, he'd turn to anyone who dared look in his direction and say "Don't you punks even think about jacking that", which is exactly the thing someone who looks like this would say.

I'm trying to be a little less long-winded in these blogs, so I won't turn this into a biography. Instead, we'll keep it to a handful of Bergin's most [in]famous clients and accusations/crimes. • Trafficking Kilogram Quantities of Cocaine

• Others he has been associated with have been accused of wire fraud, witness tampering, money laundering, drug trafficking
